Reader consequence

Ascendance is the first large paid expansion announced for Wilds and will decide how the game grows beyond its original story and endgame.

Capcom has announced Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a paid expansion planned for 2027.

The company calls it a large expansion and says it will continue the story from the main game. A full release date and price have not been announced.

What Capcom confirmed

Ascendance will add new quest ranks, locations, monsters, and weapon actions. Capcom also says new gameplay features will expand how weapons can be used.

Those details follow the usual shape of a major Monster Hunter expansion, but Capcom has not shown the full monster list or explained how many areas will be added.

The expansion is being developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Switch 2 version

Capcom also confirmed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the base Monster Hunter Wilds game is in development.

The announcement does not say whether Ascendance will launch on Switch 2 at the same time as the other versions. It only lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for the expansion right now.

Players should wait for a direct platform announcement before assuming the expansion will be available everywhere on day one.

What players still need to know

The biggest open questions are the release date, price, monster list, and whether saved progress will carry over without any special steps.

Capcom also has not explained the new quest rank structure or shown the expanded weapon actions.

The 2027 window gives the team time to share those details slowly. For now, players know that Wilds will receive a major story and gameplay expansion rather than only smaller free updates.

Context from the developer discussion

Game Informer's account of the developer presentation adds two useful boundaries to Capcom's announcement. It reports that Ascendance's story is tied to elder dragons and that access follows completion of the seven-star assignment "Awakening From a Dream." Those details place the expansion after high-level base-game progress instead of presenting it as a separate starting point.

The interview also helps separate two announcements that arrived together. Monster Hunter Wilds is being developed for Switch 2, while Capcom's Ascendance release list currently names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A Switch 2 version of the base game therefore should not be treated as confirmation that the expansion launches there at the same time.

Comparison with earlier expansion patterns

New ranks, monsters, locations, and weapon actions are familiar building blocks for a large Monster Hunter expansion. That comparison explains the scale Capcom is signaling, but it cannot supply the missing price, exact monster roster, release date, or number of areas. Those details still need direct confirmation.

Ascendance is a confirmed 2027 expansion with a post-story entry point and a broad set of additions. It gives Wilds a clear next phase, but the current evidence is still an announcement rather than a complete buying guide. Platform parity, timing, price, and save-transfer details remain the most important unanswered questions.
