Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to arrive on PlayStation 5 on July 28. The remake keeps the basic story of the original Halo campaign but changes many parts of how it plays.
The biggest updates are not limited to graphics. Halo Studios has added modern controls, new weapons, changed encounters, and more co-op options.
Control and combat changes
Players can sprint, aim down sights with every weapon, and use a modern vehicle control layout. Health now recharges slowly along with shields, so players do not need to search for health packs after every fight.
Vehicle hijacking has also been added. Master Chief can take enemy vehicles, and Elite enemies can try to steal vehicles from the player.
Several weapons from later Halo games appear in the campaign, including the SMG, Needle Rifle, Fuel Rod Cannon, Beam Rifle, and Energy Sword.
New missions and enemies
The main campaign still has 10 missions, but enemy groups and some battle locations have been adjusted.
The remake also includes three bonus missions set before the original game. These missions feature Master Chief and Sgt. Major Johnson and add weapons and enemies that were introduced later in the series.
Co-op and replay options
Two-player split-screen co-op returns. The remake also supports four-player online co-op.
Players can find terminals, collect Skulls, and use gameplay modifiers for repeat runs. Those additions give returning players more reasons to explore beyond the main path.
Campaign Evolved is trying to keep the structure of the first Halo while removing some controls and systems that may feel dated today. Players who want the exact original experience may still prefer an older version, but this remake is clearly designed as a new starting point.
