The update gives prospective players a release date, pre-order timing, and a clearer sense of the combat and gear customization built around Faye.

God of War Laufey pre-orders open September 29 at 10:00am local time, according to PlayStation Blog. The game is scheduled for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027.

The announcement supplies practical purchase details, but its more substantial addition is a breakdown of Faye’s combat kit. PlayStation describes the Serpent Bow as a weapon built for both close-range and ranged attacks, with distinct firing inputs that support precise shots, mobile hip-fire, charged volleys, and weapon swaps during combos.

VGC also reported the pre-order timing and the planned Standard and Digital Deluxe editions.

Pre-order items and the Digital Deluxe edition

PlayStation says purchases made before launch receive the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance, and an in-game resource pack. The armor and appearance are unlocked through story progression. For a physical Standard Edition, the bonus is cited through a download code and requires an internet connection and PlayStation account.

The PlayStation Blog identifies the Official God of War Laufey Digital Soundtrack as part of the Digital Deluxe Edition. It also cites Dark Alchemy Bow Scales as a Digital Deluxe item. VGC likewise reports that the Digital Deluxe Edition carries extra content alongside the game.

The available details establish a distinction worth keeping clear: the pre-order items apply to purchases before launch, while the Digital Deluxe edition has its own added content.

A bow designed around openings

Faye can fully press the aim trigger for greater precision and draw distance, PlayStation says. Hitting certain enemy body points can impair movement or attacks, creating an opening for melee follow-ups.

A charged aim can store up to 5 arrows for a volley, while a half press enters a more mobile hip-fire stance that fires a close-range cluster. PlayStation also says the bow can juggle airborne enemies and extend combos as Faye moves between weapons and abilities.

Arrow types include rapid fire, explosive detonations, and multi-target effects. Those choices suggest the bow is not merely a ranged option: it is presented as a tool for shaping enemy positioning and sustaining offensive sequences.

Gear choices around Faye

PlayStation says the Serpent Bow accepts Scales that alter its appearance and specialize its playstyle through unique perks. Unlockable bow skills add further capabilities.

Faye’s equipment also includes armor with perks, stats, and different looks, plus customizable elements for her sword and bow. Catalysts are artifacts that channel magic from the Everywhen and carry different effects.

VGC reports that Laufey places Faye, also known as Laufey the Just, at the center of the story, making this a notable shift in protagonist for the series. For players deciding whether to pre-order, the immediate picture is clearer: PlayStation has set the release date and outlined early purchase items, while its combat description points to a more configurable arsenal built around Faye’s bow, melee options, and magical equipment.
