The Sift will enter Minecraft Dungeons II on September 29, then make the larger leap into Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027. Xbox Wire says Mojang’s new realm is Minecraft’s first new dimension in over 14 years, placing it alongside the Overworld, the Nether, and the End.
That split rollout matters. Dungeons II will offer the first playable encounter with the Sift, while the version planned for Minecraft itself remains less defined. Mojang has confirmed the destination, but not how players will reach it in the base game or how closely its design will follow the action role-playing game’s version.
A new realm arrives in stages
The Sift was first announced at Gamescom and later shown in greater detail during Minecraft LIVE, according to Xbox Wire. Minecraft Dungeons II launches on September 29, bringing the realm into a game built around combat and progression. Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition will receive the dimension in 2027.
Eurogamer likewise reports that the Sift will arrive in Dungeons II before it reaches the base game, and identifies the End’s arrival in 2011 as the previous addition to Minecraft’s dimension roster. The timing gives the announcement unusual weight: Minecraft has added biomes over the years, but a dimension is a distinct world space with its own rules and identity.
For players, the schedule creates two different expectations. Dungeons II players can expect an early encounter with the setting. Builders, survival players, and server communities using Minecraft Java or Bedrock know that the Sift is planned, but do not yet have the practical details needed to understand its place in long-running worlds.
What Dungeons II says about the Sift
Xbox Wire describes the Dungeons II version as a colorful new reality with unique friendly and hostile mobs, dangerous blocks, and shifting tides that can affect characters and those around them. It also names Meadows and Carapace among its biomes.
Those details establish the Sift as more than a visual change. Hazardous blocks and changing conditions suggest that movement and exploration will demand attention, while the new enemies and companions give the realm its own set of encounters. In Dungeons II, the setting appears in the opening stages, after strange events disrupt the Overworld and new enemy types emerge.
PC Gamer reported that the realm is pink and includes bunny-like creatures that walk rather than hop. That is a useful visual impression, but the more consequential information comes from the first-party description: the Sift has environmental rules and obstacles that shape how players move through it.
The crucial distinction for Minecraft players
The Dungeons II version should not be treated as a complete specification for Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition. Xbox Wire says Mojang has not said much about access to the Sift in Minecraft or about the ways the base-game version will differ from Dungeons II’s expression of the dimension.
That boundary is important because Dungeons II and Minecraft ask different things of their worlds. The former introduces the Sift through a combat-focused adventure, while the latter is where players explore, survive, and create over time. Mojang has confirmed those broad activities for the Sift in Minecraft, but has not detailed the systems that will govern them.
Eurogamer similarly reports that the announcement left many details undisclosed, including a firm release date within 2027. The present information supports anticipation, not a complete guide to preparation. Players can learn about the realm’s atmosphere, creatures, blocks, and biomes through Dungeons II, but should not assume that each element will transfer unchanged.
Where players can find the early version
Minecraft Dungeons II launches on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, where it will be included with Game Pass. Xbox Wire also lists Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Xbox Play Anywhere will let eligible players use the game on console and PC at no additional cost.
This broad release gives players across several platforms an earlier look at the Sift. It does not turn Dungeons II into early access for the Minecraft update, however. The evidence points to an earlier interpretation of the realm rather than a confirmed preview of every base-game mechanic.
The Sift is a meaningful change because Minecraft’s familiar set of dimensions is gaining a new counterpart after a long interval. Dungeons II will reveal the first practical shape of that world through its own systems; Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition will eventually determine what the Sift means for exploration, survival, and creation on their own terms.
