Xbox paired a surprise release with a long-range software slate at its September 17 Tokyo Game Show broadcast, which closed with Hideo Kojima. Xbox Wire announced Shape of Dreams as available that day on Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass; Fallout 76’s The Slasher was a separate update for existing players. Other presentations set launch targets extending into 2027. Availability statements below describe the announcements, not a fresh store check.
Xbox Wire said the broadcast contained 17 gameplay reveals and announcements, alongside a surprise release and a world premiere. Its recap spans projects associated with Activision, Bethesda, Kojima Productions, Koei Tecmo, and Sega, but the shape of the event was broader than a single franchise showcase: established series sat beside smaller narrative and crafting games.
A schedule with near-term releases
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch on October 23, 2026, according to Xbox Wire. Players who pre-order the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition can access its campaign from October 16. The campaign premise places Price on the run amid a war on the Korean Peninsula and a threatened catastrophic weapon.
Once Human expansion Isles of Abyss follows on October 22, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and is included with Game Pass. Xbox Wire describes the update as adding ship-building, survival across islands and ocean, deep-sea exploration, and endgame boss encounters.
Fallout 76 already has its new addition. The Slasher opens a storyline that unfolds over multiple weeks, with an emergency broadcast directing players toward a string of masked murders. Xbox Wire says the update includes fights against Slasher supporters, grave investigations, and a chance to obtain a unique Power Armor set.
Edge of Memories is scheduled for November 5. Xbox Wire describes it as an action JRPG made through collaboration between a French studio and veteran Japanese developers, centered on a corruption called the Corrosion that changes explored areas and opens new paths.
Releases further down the line
Several presentations placed attention on games due in 2027. Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is coming that year. ArtPlay's metroidvania is set in gothic England and follows Leo and Alex through a cursed land in 2.5D action.
GACHIAKUTA: BREAKOUT, a survival action RPG based on the television anime, is also due in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Xbox Wire highlighted its melee-focused combat and cartoon-style rendering.
Persona 4 Revival has a February 18, 2027 release date for Xbox Series X|S. Atlus used the broadcast for a character trailer introducing Naoto Shirogane, a member of the Special Investigation Team.
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember launches March 4, 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud. An Alpha Demo is available until September 30, with a Fledgling Phoenix Helmet offered as a reward for completing it before the full game launches.
That spread matters because the show did not ask players to treat every appearance as an imminent release. It offered a more useful mix: content available now, dated projects, and games whose timing remains less specific.
New projects and familiar worlds
Serenity Forge debuted Faraday Blues at the broadcast. Xbox Wire describes a surreal science-fiction story about a daughter searching for parents who do not know she exists. Players use character cards to alter tragic choices across connected visual novels, with decisions carrying across different eras and visual styles. The game has 64 endings, according to Xbox Wire.
Bloomwalker also received new gameplay and was identified as part of the Ni No Kuni universe. Its Pocket Dimension lets players build and customize an area accessed through the Moving House, alongside Familiars and Higgledies. Xbox Wire says Bloomwalker is planned for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC with Xbox Play Anywhere support.
Elsewhere, Sega revealed Japan as a location in Crazy Taxi: World Tour. Nodding Heads presented gameplay and developer commentary for Raji: Kaliyuga, while Xbox Wire also presented Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember. Hope in the City, a narrative mystery from Lofty Sky Games, is coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC; its protagonist investigates her parents’ disappearance using her sketchbook.
Kojima at the close
Xbox Wire’s recap explicitly identifies Bill Skarsgård as PHYSINT’s lead and describes the poster featuring him with Charlee Fraser. It does not merely record Kojima’s appearance. Its linked casting announcement adds that fittings, scans, and camera tests with the pair took place earlier in the year.
The separate Xbox Wire announcement names Don Lee and Minami Hamabe among the cast and confirms Xbox’s publishing arrangement. It also describes OD – KNOCK performance-capture footage with Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer. These are distinct projects: an OD production update is not PHYSINT gameplay evidence.
The useful distinction is between a performer announcement and a playable demonstration. Our interpretation is that the cast gives PHYSINT a clearer creative identity, but does not by itself establish mission design, player agency, technical performance, or a completion date. Those require different evidence.
A broad Xbox program rather than a single headline
The Tokyo Game Show slate offers different reasons to pay attention depending on what players want from Xbox. Fallout 76 and Once Human provide current or near-term service-game additions. Call of Duty, Persona 4 Revival, and Wo Long 2 provide dated franchise releases. Faraday Blues, Bloomwalker, Hope in the City, and Raji: Kaliyuga show a parallel interest in smaller-scale or less familiar projects.
Our reading is that the schedule is most useful when separated by the decision each announcement supports. A playable release can answer whether a game suits you now; a dated launch helps with planning; a casting reveal is a reason to follow development, not to assume the game is close. Even a fixed date does not answer questions about edition entitlements, regional access or performance. Keeping these categories separate prevents the most recognisable guest from overshadowing the smaller releases that players can actually evaluate sooner.
