The August tests have ended
Gears of War: E-Day’s early-access beta ran from August 6 at noon Pacific to August 10 at 10 a.m. Pacific. The public weekend followed from August 13 at noon to August 17 at 10 a.m. These are historical windows, not an invitation to download an active test.
The official FAQ identifies qualifying preorders, Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass as early-access routes. For the second weekend, it explicitly says Game Pass was not required. Its separate membership requirement concerns multiplayer at launch.
That distinction resolves an important ambiguity in earlier coverage. “No preorder required” and “no subscription required” are different statements; in this case the updated FAQ supplies both for the public weekend. An older secondary account should not override the developer’s explicit answer.
Rewards are not the same as progression
The FAQ says both weekends offered Horde Siege and four-versus-four Versus. Progress carried between the weekends, but player level, class progression and other medal progress would reset for launch. Earned beta challenge rewards, the beta title and beta medal would carry over.
This split serves two different purposes. Persistent cosmetics can acknowledge participation without letting early testers bring an accumulated level advantage into release. For players deciding how to spend a limited beta weekend, the distinction is more useful than a general promise that “progress carries.”
A test of multiplayer, not the entire game
A beta can reveal whether a player enjoys the movement and combat loop. It cannot, by itself, establish the quality of a campaign it does not include. Nor does a successful match prove that launch-scale matchmaking will behave identically.
For the same reason, reports from different weekends need dates. The official FAQ was updated with fixes between sessions; observations from the first build should not automatically be described as unresolved in the second.
This corrected record explains the access and progression rules. It does not claim we participated in either test or use the beta as a substitute for reviewing the finished release.
