Sports Renovations was included in Xbox's August 6–9, 2026 Free Play Days promotion for Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members. That temporary access did not grant permanent ownership or establish an ongoing Game Pass catalog listing.
One promotion, several access rules
Xbox Wire's August 6 announcement gave the games different conditions:
- Sports Renovations: August 6–9, with an eligible Game Pass membership.
- Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint: August 6–10, for all Xbox members without a Game Pass requirement.
- NBA 2K26 Standard Edition: August 7–14, for all Xbox members without a Game Pass requirement.
- Wax Heads: a two-hour trial for all Xbox members during the promotion.
Those distinctions are the useful part of keeping this record. A shared promotional banner did not mean a shared deadline, subscription requirement or amount of play time. An old lineup should not be used to decide whether a download is free now; a later event needs its own terms.
Xbox Wire said players could retain Gamerscore and achievements when purchasing after the trial. That statement is narrower than a guarantee about every saved game. The Sports Renovations store page lists cloud saves, but we have not independently verified trial-to-purchase save behavior.
A restoration game, not a sports match
The Xbox Store identifies Sports Renovations as a single-player game developed by Goat Gamez and published by Dear Villagers, released for Series X|S on October 23, 2025. Its premise is restoring sports facilities to fund the rescue of a hometown basketball court. Jobs include cleaning, painting and repairing spaces, with earnings used for equipment and headquarters upgrades.
That explains its unusual fit in a lineup led by sports and military games. Its connection to sport is the setting and restoration work, not competitive play on the court. The trial offered a way to investigate that difference without confusing the title with a match-based sports game.
A useful assessment of a restoration simulator looks beyond how attractive a completed room appears. The important questions are whether the repeated actions stay engaging, whether upgrades change the work rather than merely speed it up, and whether later jobs require different decisions. GG Bulletin has not tested those qualities here; a store description does not settle them.
