A combat-focused look at the finale
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is bringing Vincent and Cid into the party as playable combatants, alongside a new system that changes available abilities through equipped uniforms. PlayStation Blog described these additions from a combat-focused Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo set in the Whirlwind Maze.
The PlayStation Blog report identifies Revelation as the final chapter following Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It is scheduled for PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027.
The demo begins with Cid joining Cloud and the party on a route toward Sephiroth. Its traversal includes moving along cliff faces and vaulting over ledges, while the maze leads through black-robed figures, Dragon Riders and Gigas before a confrontation involving Jenova Death.
Vincent and Cid take different routes through a fight
Vincent combines firearm attacks with monster transformation. Consecutive standard shots advance his special abilities from Blood Moon through Execration to Retribution, with their strength tied to the hit count. His monster form offers fast movement and claw attacks, including a move that builds enemy stagger more quickly.
The tradeoff is Chaos: PlayStation Blog says Vincent can remain transformed without a time limit, but his maximum HP falls as the Chaos level rises. That gives players a reason to change forms in response to the enemy rather than treating the transformation as a simple power increase.
Cid instead emphasizes spear range and airborne attacks. His standard attack chain can branch into moves including Dragon Spin, Hyper Dive and Ground Pound when timed with a visible aura. Target Spear can pin enemies, which in turn strengthens abilities such as Skydive and Burst Spiral. The two characters therefore appear to offer sharply different combat rhythms within the same party.
FITS makes equipment a combat decision
Revelation also introduces FITS, short for Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear. Players choose among Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner uniforms, each of which unlocks a different set of capabilities and abilities.
In the demo, Cloud wore the Summoner FITS. Selecting it from the combat command menu called in beings including Ifrit, Shiva and Titan for a limited time. Selecting the system again while a summon was active triggered Pledge Roar, a powerful attack that drains HP.
That cost is the important detail. Rather than making a summon purely an emergency answer to a difficult encounter, the demonstrated version asks players to weigh immediate damage against its HP cost.
The scale conversation sits beside the demo
Eurogamer separately reported that director Naoki Hamaguchi told VGC the game could be around 200 GB, while describing the figure as still being worked out. Eurogamer also reported planned post-launch DLC centered on Vincent and Sephiroth.
Those reported storage and DLC details are separate from PlayStation Blog’s hands-on account, but together they frame Revelation as a finale expanding both its playable party and its combat choices. The clearest evidence so far is not simply a larger adventure: it is a party built around contrasting roles, with FITS giving equipment a direct tactical purpose.
A finale built around risk and specialization
The Whirlwind Maze demo culminates in Jenova Death, whose tentacles protect its body until destroyed and later attack with fire. PlayStation Blog reports that Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks were used to finish the battle.
Our hypothesis is that health management could become the link between these otherwise distinct systems: a player sustaining Vincent’s transformation while spending HP on a summon attack may face competing reasons to stop attacking and recover. That is a tactical question raised by the described mechanics, not a combination GG Bulletin has tested. The useful next demonstration would show those costs together in one sustained encounter, including how recovery affects the damage gained. A brief demo description cannot settle which setup is strongest.
